“Some people dream of success, while others, wake up and work hard at it.”

Yuliya Roysental

COACH

Competitive Program: 13-15

Coach Yuliya is a former Santa Clara Aquamaid swimmer, now an Aquamaids coach, who began her synchro journey in 1994. She has dedicated her life to the sport since she was 5 years old, and now shares her knowledge with younger girls wishing to pursue an athletic career. Yuliya has won numerous competitions with her team, from California State Games to Age Group Nationals and U.S. Open.

As an athlete, Yuliya’s love for synchro was evident on a daily basis. Often she found a ride to the pool to watch another teams practice, just so she could learn more. She was self motivated, always looking for the next step to bring her closer to greatness. Yuliya won her first Age Group Nationals in 2003 with her team in the 14-15 age group, and received the Jerry Smith Sportsmanship of the year award that year. The following year, Yuliya not only won Age Group Nationals with her team in the 16-17 age group and placed 4th in the 18-19 duet, but also became a triple crown and grand slam winner. From Olympians to Internationally ranked athletes, Yuliya was coached by the best. She has taken the life lessons and knowledge that her coaches gave her and put them into practice in her swimming, and now her coaching career.

Wishing to widen her contributing to synchro, she started helping out at Aquamaids’s camps and summer programs as a young swimmer.  She has a genuine love for kids, passion and drive for the sport. She has coached for Los Gatos Angelfish, San Francisco Merionettes and the Walnut Creek Aquanuts, and is delighted to return to Aquamaids as a coach. Coach Yuliya is an advocate for the organization Artistic Swimming formally known as Synchronized Swimming for Athletes with Disabilities. She coaches a disabled athlete, Raquel, since 7 years and hopes to one day see synchronized swimming included in the Paralympic Games! Raquel, now an accomplished athlete, started in Aquamaids’ Novice Intermediate Program. Yuliya is accepted into San Jose State University and will be studying Communicative Disorders and Sciences starting the fall of 2019.
